How to change your IP address in Namecheap

This guide is for domains registered with Namecheap. If you have your domain registered with GoDaddy, please follow the GoDaddy guide.

  • Log in to your NameCheap account.
  • Go to your “Domain List“.
  • Click on the “Manage” button of the domain you want to change.
  • Click on “Advanced DNS”.
  • Important: In the section “HOST RECORDS” delete any existing entries by clicking the “Trash Icon” on each line.
  • Once deleted, click on ADD NEW RECORD
  • You have to enter a total of 2 new records:

Record 1:

  • Type: A Record
  • Host: @
  • IP Address: 116.202.231.5
  • TTL: Automatic

Record 2 (necessary to make the domain accessible via www):

  • Type: CNAME Record
  • Host: www
  • *Target: yourDomainName.com
  • TTL: Automatic

*Replace the above “yourDomainName.com” with your actual domain name.

In the end, all you should have in the HOST RECORDS section, are these 2 entries like in the screenshot above.

Note: The update can take anywhere from 5 minutes up to 12 hours until it’s fully reflected around the world. You might get error messages when visiting the website while the IP address change is still ongoing.
